Procedures: Eyes & Brows

Cosmetic surgery on the eyes is a common form of plastic surgery. Open eyes suggest alertness, interest and energy and often people with drooping eyelids or puffy bags under the eyes are unfairly judged as being more tired or older than they actually are.

Surgery procedures involving eyes and brows can include eyelid lift, brow lift or removal of puffy bags under the eyes.

Discuss with your surgeon when considering cosmetic eye surgery as this will help determine whether the problem is due to drooping eyelids only or drooping eyebrows. If the eyebrows need lifting this will open the eyes and lift the expression avoiding the need for an eyelid lift.

Eyebrow lifts have grown in popularity as there is little postoperative discomfort, inconspicuous scars and relatively few side effects. Our surgeons go to great efforts to hide incisions within or around the hair wherever possible, and the new endoscopic approach allows very small incisions. During browlift surgery, the muscles in the forehead can be sculpted so that deep furrows and wrinkles are lessened.

Blepharoplasty or eyelid lift can be carried out alone or with other procedures such as face-lifts, laser resurfacing to tighten the skin or eyebrow lifts. Upper blepharoplasty involves removing excess skin or fatty tissue of the eyelids. Lower blepharoplasty involves tightening wrinkled skin and/or removing heaviness beneath the eyes – this is often done without any incision.

Blepharoplasty does not remove crows’ feet and other wrinkles or remove dark circles under the eyes – a muscle relaxant injection is often used in conjunction with blepharoplasty to remove crows’ feet and frown lines.
